We asked our Pros

Kandua has over 33 000 vetted Pros on our platform. 60% of these small businesses and independent professionals employ between 3–10 people on a permanent basis, and often have many more casual workers.

Building for the future

In the context of South Africa’s alarming unemployment rate, enabling these kinds of businesses is vital. This is why we surveyed our Pros to understand what they need to unlock their growth. Their top concerns are finding new customers and accessing finance — and we are firm believers that smart, relevant tech can help solve both these problems.

Making the mission real

You have to check this out

It’s impossible to go a week at Kandua without hearing someone say our mission out loud:

Shortening the distance between having a skill, and making a living from it.

This mission is a constant source of inspiration and motivation. However, it’s when we hear directly from our Pros how Kandua makes a difference for them that it really hits home. Watch to find out:

We get asked a lot :)

When you’re the Chief Operations Officer of the country’s leading home services marketplace, you learn a thing or two about how to choose the right person for the job.

We think they’re smiling because they got a Pro to do their renovation

Our COO, Graeme Steen, and Brendan Michie from our partners at Hammond Pole attorneys, spoke to Estate Living about how to choose a good builder, or as the journalist, Angelique, put it — how to avoid hiring a cowboy. Boots and hats aside, Graeme’s first piece of advice is, naturally, to make sure you have a budget.

This was a year that gave us lots to celebrate.

Fun times in the new Kandua office

We’re up to over 28 000 Pros registered, and we help more than 8 500 people find a Pro they can trust every month.

We welcomed great new partners and investors: Kandua was part of the Catalyst Fund Inclusive Tech Accelerator and closed a pre-Series A investment round with Knife Capital and Allan Gray E Squared. We launched a pilot partnership in the property sector with Hammond Pole and in insurance with King Price.

Our team almost tripled in size and now has a new home in the heart of Braamfontein.

We’ve recently been part of setting up the JobTech Alliance. Together with our other partners, our vision is that technology enables Africans to access and improve work that enhances their quality of life. To describe how we think this can become a reality, we’ve borrowed a metaphor from the tech world — read our CEO, Sayo Folawiyo’s article about taking a full stack approach to JobTech here.
